Rocky Mountain High School’s bowling team ended its season with two students qualifying for districts. On February 14 and 15, the team competed in a bowling tournament at Meridian Lanes bowling alley to compete for districts. Although the team did not qualify, Nathan Duckworth and Kate Schweinberg, both Juniors did qualify for district play.

Mr. Waggoner, Rocky Mountain’s bowling coach, explains that the players were playing 2-3 games with a total of 6 games. “The tournament consisted of players bowling 2-3 game sets for a total of 6 games.  The four highest scorers for those 6 games then competed in a bracket to determine the champion.”

Competitors came from all over the state. There were around 50 boys and 30 girls playing. Other members of the Rocky bowling team who competed in the tournament were Brodie Bullock, Rowan Montano, Patrick Wong, and Matthew Kim.

“The season went well.  We focused mainly on having fun and enjoyed competing against other schools in the district”, he said. When asked what he would say to the team, Mr. Waggoner said, “I hope they all enjoyed the season and that they are planning on coming back to the club next year.”

Mr. Waggoner said the team played well in the tournament but in the end did not advance. “There’s still next year,” Waggoner said.

If you’re trying to get involved with a new club at Rocky, the bowling club is fun. The competition is good, and it is full of fun nice new people to meet.

I think that it’s really cool that we have such a variety of clubs and teams that Rocky provides. I also think that it’s really awesome that 2 of our members qualified for districts.

Rocky’s bowling team sounds like a great opportunity to meet new people and to try new things! Especially if you are a transfer student or a new student looking to meet some friends.
