There are some students who mange to go above and beyond, and take charge of their educational career, working toward their dream job. One of these students who sticks out is Teagan Tanous.
Since she was 12-years-old, she has wanted to be an astrophysicist because she was inspired by looking at the stars and wondering what lies beyond. Too anxious to be an astronaut, she wanted to still be a part of space exploration, without actually putting herself out there. So, Tanous is on her way to become a flight director for mission control at NASA.
This year, she started perusing advanced classes, pushing her to work harder. “There’s a lot of work [in AP Human Geo]. There’s a lot of assignments that you have to keep up with, and it’s all in your own time,” Tanous said.
In an effort to become a flight director, Tanous wants to study astrophysics as an undergraduate at a high ranking university. “In order to really get myself noticed or enable myself to go to those schools, I need to have a high GPA, and I need to show the schools that I’m willing to do high level work,” Tanous said.
In addition to being an AP student, Tanous also is a participant in various sports and speech and debate.
Starting out as a swimmer, she felt she didn’t have the endurance to succeed. In middle school, she tried running and has done it ever since. “It’s something that I have been doing for a long time now, and I really enjoy it,” Tanous said.
Tanous also participates on the speech and debate team; she enjoys the community that is has to offer, saying that the best part of speech and debate is realizing you are prepared when someone counters your argument.
Tanous is putting in the time and effort that will help to achieve her dream.
