Four-day weekends would be very beneficial for students and teachers and here are some reasons why: more than 2,100 public schools in 25 states have switched to only four days of school a week according to The Journalist Resource News. They did this to hopefully recruit teachers, save money and increase students’ attendance. Schools are starting to have a shortage of teachers in the district. This is causing a problem which I think an extra day of school off would help. Schools usually give students Mondays or Fridays off giving them the three-day weekend which gives them a chance to have a break, and re-collect themselves. Highschool life is hard, and I think it’s a great idea to have the day off because students will come back to school refreshed and more ready to learn. There are studies that have been proven that students that have little longer breaks tend to learn better throughout the week. I back this statement because I think that it is true. When we have a day off school it makes it easier to get through the week and makes it easier to get things done during class.
On the other hand there are some negative effects to having a day off of school. Some things are that your learning is cut short a day, so you are not getting as many hours as before. Also, if the whole district has the day off some younger kids would have to go into daycare or babysitting because some parents have jobs during school hours. Students attending a 4-day school schedule may have requirements for their education that fall outside of the normal work schedule for their parents according to Ittana’s.
Obviously there are many benefits from having school off but there is also some downsides to it too that would be taken into consideration as well. I asked 10 students here at Rocky Mountain about their opinion of the day off school on Friday and they all agreed that we should have the day off. I also asked a few superintendents about their opinion, and they agreed with the students. In conclusion I think that having Fridays off school would be a great benefit to all students and teachers here at Rocky.

I definitly agree with having four day weekends would be better for student success. I feel that if we did have 4 day weekends our brains and bodies would be less strained from all of the school work we do each week on end.

I think this is a great idea, because like the article said most schools have Fridays off. Fridays off would give us more time to catch up on homework and also just give us sometime do decompress from school. Also having 3 day weekends would not be a huge thing we would still be getting 4 days of learning a week which is still the majority of the week.

The student does well to include different reasons to elaborate on multiple views on this topic, but they lose their professional voice when they use phrases like, “I think”. Also, the author does not provide trusted evidence to support their reasonings. The student mentions a study, but not what study it was, or if it was from a trustworthy source. For instance, the student states, “I back this statement because I think that it is true.” The student’s opinion doesn’t prove anything; it may be more effective if the author interviewed other students to show that other’s agreed.

Your view on the parent pick up for younger students problem is very interesting and I can see your point. I also think that possibly just taking off the day for older students such as middle school and high school could be a possible solution. Great job.

I think that a day of would be beneficial, but instead of a longer weekend, I believe that Wednesday would be a better day to have off. Wednesday would be a great day in the middle of the week to allow us a break halfway through the week.

100% agree with this article because as a freshman, I understand the huge amount stress high school students have thrust upon themselves especially coming to the end of semesters with 3 finals a day and crazy hours studying and studying. Maybe if school was a little longer on Monday-Thursday that could solve the problem of lessons cut short but also gives us an extra day to catch up, study, and recuperate ourselves for the weekend and another week of school.

This story is very informing and written thoroughly. I think that having four days of a school week is a good idea and the author did a good job with convincing the readers. The story had lots of realistic reasons making readers agree with what was written. I think everyone could benefit to four days of school every week making students less stressed, ahead with schoolwork, and it could even benefit for the teachers and staff.

Having a four-day week would definitely be nice giving us an extra day to relax before going back to school. And we’d be more focused after coming back from a three-day weekend. I also didn’t know that having a longer break is scientifically proven to help students learn better.

My kids are currently enrolled in D70 in Pueblo. And I’ll tell you what this whole 4 day school week isn’t a good idea at all. I just can’t believe education has come down to a numbers game. It would be one thing if these teachers actually did something to deserve a 4 day work week. But all they do is sit at their desk while kids are working on their computers all day. (I’m on the PTA at the school my kids go to so I’m at the school a lot.) And the teachers are zero help my daughter was behind and I went to her teacher and asked how I can help and he said he had his hands full and can’t worry about who’s behind. I went to the principal asking for help and got nowhere. 4 day school week just sucks kids are struggling and no one cares . So it may sound like a good idea but it’s not at all

I agree with this article and how it was very well written. Having a 3-day weekend would give students time off from the stress of school. It would also increase the student’s attendance. I definitely agree with this article. Having school back-to-back for the whole entire week plus teachers handing out packets of homework is definitely overwhelming for us students who can only take so much. Especially having to go to school way early, just to get out late all week every day and only getting two breaks out of it all is extremely draining. If we had Friday off, I feel as if a lot could change, and be extremely academically beneficial to both teachers and students.

I believe this is a great idea. An extra day would allow kids to be more rested at school, allowing us to get better grades. Although, in order to avoid having to put kids in daycare due to some parents having day jobs, we should only allow high school (maybe middle) to have the extra day off.

I can relate to this article a lot. As a teen, coming to school 5 days a week can be hard, but with having an extra day off, could make teens have better focus with better rest.
