Winter has officially arrived for Treasure Valley skiers and snowboarders with the recent opening of Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area’s 2025/26 winter season. After an unusually warm November slowed snowfall, the resort’s team worked hard with snowmaking and snow storage technology to open for Thanksgiving weekend, welcoming hundreds of winter sports fans to the mountain.
The first big weekend, November 29 and 30 saw the Easy Rider conveyor and terrain park open, giving Boise locals their first chance of the season to carve up snow, catch some air, or simply enjoy being back on the hill. Day tickets were offered for just $15, and season pass holders hit the slopes early.
This year’s early opening was made possible through innovative snowmaking, snow preserved from last season, and tech that helps Bogus Basin be the first winter recreation area in Idaho to open its season.
While only some lower runs and beginner areas are open so far, more terrain is expected to be ready as natural snow continues to fall this winter. Officials remind everyone that all season pass holders must pick up updated season access cards before their visits, a new requirement tied to the resort’s updated ticketing system.
Students at Rocky Mountain High School are among those likely to feel the excitement whether beginners learning to ski or snowboard, or more experienced riders eager for weekend trips up the mountain. Bogus Basin’s terrain offers options for all skill levels, from gentle beginner slopes to terrain parks and more challenging runs, making it a popular local destination every winter.
“I love getting out there with my friends after school,” said one local snowboarder. “It’s the best way to kick off winter.” With regular snowfall expected, officials are optimistic that full winter operations, including more lifts and trails are on the horizon.
Whether skiing is a weekly ritual or a new hobby for many teens, Bogus Basin’s opening weekend brought a fresh burst of winter fun to Boise and is just the beginning of another snowy season.
