Basketball season is officially underway at Rocky High School as girls’ basketball tryouts wrapped up on November 8 in the school gym. Dozens of hopeful athletes showed up throughout the week, including returning player McKenzie Bybee, who entered the season determined to push her skills to the next level, even while recovering from an injury in her senior year. With only 2 seniors on the varsity basketball team, they plan to lead and continue the hardship of their last season, bonding over wins and losses while inspiring younger athletes to stay committed. With hard work, team chemistry, and a fresh wave of talent, the girls’ team is gearing up for what they hope will be one of their strongest seasons yet.
As a varsity captain, McKenzie has made it a priority to support her teammates both on and off the court. Even when she can’t participate fully, she’s the first to offer advice, encouragement, and guidance during drills. Younger players often look to her for confidence and direction. McKenzie said, “You get so many benefits from basketball, like friendships that will last for a while, and the physical hardships that help everyone grow both physically and mentally basketball has helped me is so many aspects of life.”
With the roster now taking shape, the excitement around Rocky High’s girls’ basketball program continues to build. Returning leaders like McKenzie and the energy of new players have created a determined and optimistic atmosphere, with great underclassmen and knowledgeable upperclassmen working together. As the season approaches, the team hopes their hard work during tryouts will translate into a year of growth, teamwork, and memorable moments on and off the court. No matter the challenges ahead, the Rocky Grizzlys are ready to take on the season together and build a team of great improvement, confidence, and unwavering dedication.
