The Minecraft movie has been all anybody can talk about as of recent and it’s by far the most popular movie in theaters right now. From chaos in the theaters to memorable quotes it seems everybody wants to see the new movie. Although it might be a huge hit for the public, it is taking a big toll on some theaters. Many videos on social media can be seen with people throwing popcorn, fighting, screaming ‘chicken jockey’ and many other chaotic actions.
But if I’m being real, even though the whole meme frenzy is fun, the movie itself holds up. Jack Black was a perfect choice for the lead. His humor and charm really shine through, and he brought a sense of heart and fun to the character that just worked. Honestly, without his energy, I’m not sure the movie would have hit the same way.
The movie sets up a lot, and I think the way it played out their could be more movies. They’ve got a lot of potential here, especially with how they left the story open-ended. I can totally see this becoming a bigger deal, with more movies that dive deeper into the Minecraft world — maybe even a whole cinematic universe.
For me, it was just an overall hilarious movie, but it was also so cool getting to see the game I grew up playing be turned into a movie. But don’t just take my word for it. I interviewed a fellow student at Rocky named Grant Schexnider about his thoughts on the movie and he said, ”It was absolutely stellar. It was very well made, with many comical parts and absolutely exceeded my expectations.” It appears that Schexnider really loved the movie and how funny it was.
So yeah, the movie was a blast. It wasn’t perfect, but it was exactly what I needed in terms of fun and energy. Its one of those movies you have to see with your friends in a sold-out theater. All in all the Minecraft Movie was a great experience and if you haven’t seen it yet I would totally recommend it.
