Tennis match against Boise cancelled because of hail.

The Tennis season has begun and with it comes a lot of unexpected weather. Rain, hail, and snow have made playing tennis more difficult for the players. Wet courts and strong winds have forced the coaches to reschedule matches and cancel practices this season. So, how are the players handling these weather conditions and how does it impact their performance?

In one interview, Caylee Do, freshman, explained, “When it rains, we go in the gym to practice tennis, which kinda sucks but it’s the only option we have” The rain makes the courts wet, which then makes it impossible to play on. The only option tennis players have is to go inside and train in the gym, which can take away valuable time to improve their skills and impact their overall performance.

Sophia Vezzoso, Sophomore, said, “This weather makes it harder for us to practice and play matches outside.” In the spring, the weather can be very unexpected sometimes. It’s not a rare thing for tennis matches or practice to be cancelled because of the weather. Rescheduling matches has become the new normal. In a few cases, practice had to abruptly end because it started to rain all of the sudden.

Emma Hall, Sophomore, shared her opinion on this topic, “With rain, of course, we can’t play, and I feel like I don’t get enough practice in so that impacts my performance in quite a bit.” Having to play outside brings many problems. One of the problems is being dependent on the weather. Players have to cancel matches or practice if the weather is bad. This can be very frustrating, especially if a match had to be rescheduled multiple times in a row.

The weather has a big impact on the performance of tennis players. It also has a lot of control of their matches and practices, but even though all this harsh and quickly changing weather, the players continue to fight for the team. A good community and a strong spirit is all they need to proceed with the season, hoping for better days. In her interview, Emma Hall said, “Even with all this rain, we’re still going to try and give it our best shot”. It’s good to see how the tennis players are dealing with this and looking on the bright side!
