Full-Time Student: Rocky Students Returning In-Person Soon
March 12, 2021
Students have been participating in a hybrid learning schedule for 3 quarters of the year so far; now, students will now be going back to school full-time. So far during the school year students have gone to school every other day to practice social distancing because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, now local government and the school board have determined that it is safe enough to go back every day.
Senior Tyler McDonough said, “We are going back to school every day but it’s confusing how the school district would change their mind so fast about Covid.”
There are mixed feelings from teachers and students alike.
Avalon Lucas said, “I can’t believe they are doing that to us. They were quick to shut down school entirely and now they bring everyone back to the same classroom” Lucas is a student in her fourth year at Rocky.
Some students agree with Avalon and are saying that it will be impossible to social distance with so many kids in the school. As it is right now, desks are not six feet apart in classes where there are half as many students. It seems unfathomable to attempt to socially distance in the same classrooms with many more students.
Other students are just confused on why we are going to switch it up when we have done almost on the whole school year in the hybrid system.
Student Abbey Brooks said, “I don’t really want to go back to school every day. I like the way we have it right now and feel like I have just gotten used to it.”
What is even more strange is that the change is happening during the middle of a quarter. Avalon continued, “It will be difficult for teachers to adapt to teaching with everyone in the classroom and changing their lesson plans.”
To conclude, students and teachers alike are puzzled about this change. As Rocky Mountain will start to go back to school everyday, teachers and students alike will have to get used to this new system. If there are significant problems or safety breaches, a new solution will be formed. Only time will tell how this system performs.
