March 5, from 9am to 1pm, at Mountain View high school, experts from different colleges and professions came together to give people opportunities that they wouldn’t have anywhere else. The College and Career Fair gave kids chances to possibly strike a job or find out what they want to do with their life.
At 9am the doors opened, and people were invited into the school to explore all of the different booths and activities. The first thing a student had to accomplish however was to scan a QR code or fill out a form which asked, “what’s your name, what school do you go to, and do you understand that you can excuse 2 tardies from this event”.
Once a student made it past the front tables, grabbed a tardy excusal sheet and questions to ask the professionals, everything was open to visitors. Around 100 booths were spread out around the school ranging from small colleges to the Marines and everything in between. Jayden Yun from Renaissance Highschool explored the school, “I’ve been to a lot of booths.” Each table had something unique. For example, many of the career stands had candies and items associated with that profession but many of the college stands had merchandise that depicted their logo.
To be able to excuse 2 tardies, the sheet had to have 4 stamps on it from each booth`s expert that you asked 3 questions. When finished wandering around booths, a popular choice was to eat at one of the varieties of food trucks parked outside the front doors. Hawaiian food, burgers, corndogs, ice cream, etc. all these options were available. Not hungry? A student could have also gone to the snowplow simulator that tested your driving skills in diverse scenarios. Overall, the College and Career fair was very successful, and Harrison Perkins from Renaissance Highschool agrees, “I think it’s going well, there`s lots of people here, and all the people at the booths are doing really well delivering their information.”
