As a part of the Northwest Showdown, Rocky Mountain ranked No. 2 in Idaho, battled against Chiawana “Riverhawks” ranked No. 20 in Washington. This game took place Friday, September 6th at 5:00 PM on Rocky’s home field. Despite multiple games being cancelled due to air quality, this game was too important to cancel.
To start the game, Chiawana kicked off to Rocky thus beginning the Showdown. In the beginning the game looked as if it could go both ways, however after the first rushing touchdown by Austin Rovig, “13” the Grizzly quarterback, Chiawana fell victim to Rocky’s aggressive offense. The game ended in a Rocky Mountain Grizzly win 42-8. This starts the Rocky Mountain season with 2 victories, while the Chiawana Riverhawks start their season with a loss. The Riverhawks were able to score a two point attempt on a touchdown during the end of the fourth quarter when Rocky’s defense became more relaxed because of how close the game was to ending.
During the first two quarters of the game, Rocky scored 35 of their 42 points. 28 of those 35 points were during the second quarter. Kade Benedick #0 was a key player in Rocky’s offense with 5 receptions which led to a total of 140 receiving yards and two touchdowns. In the end, Rocky gained a total of 402 passing yards, 100 rushing yards.
These past games from Rocky has been leaving its fans craving for more. They have seen how well Rocky has played in the past two games, but how will they do in the future? Especially when the next game is Mountain View who they lost to last year. Will it be a repeat, or will Rocky keep that fire burning through their whole season?
