Every movie theater that could be found in the state of Idaho was packed with people awaiting the release of the movie. Directed by Jared Hess and written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, the Minecraft movie is one of the most viral adventure comedies of the decade. So much of the hype surrounding this film came from the phrases that were huge hits on YouTube and other social media platforms. Phrases like “Chicken Jockey” and “they love crushing loaf” were made famously funny by Steve played by Jack Black.
Enoch Fuller, a Freshman at Rocky, said, “The whole theater started cheering.”
The movie kicked off with Steve yearning to go to the mines but not being able to because of an old miner. Eventually he can push aside the old miner and mine like he never had before. He finds the Orb of Dominance and the Earth Crystal deep inside the caves. He puts them together and a portal is created to the Overworld. He enjoys his time there before he is captured by Malgosha, the ruler of the Piglins and sent to a Nether prison. Then in Chuglass, Idaho; Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn find the orb and crystal that Steve`s dog Dennis hid under his bed and travel to the Overworld too. Meanwhile Steve is ordered by Malgosha to find the orb and bring it to her so that she can go to the real world with her giant Piglin army. Thinking that she has Dennis in her grasps he agrees. Over the course of the movie, all the characters have many adventures with each other and the Minecraft world. In the end everyone finds their way back to the real world (including Steve). The Minecraft movie was a massive success and the actors in the movie propelled it to a whole new level of greatness that is worth the cost of a ticket and much more.
There is some controversy when it comes to whether the movie was creative enough in the storyline or if they should have animated everyone in the movie. While these complaints did persist some of them were not very reasonable.
Richard Pascual, a freshman at Mountain View Highschool said, “Peak Cinema. 2 stars max.”
The comedy aspect of the movie was directed toward a younger audience with a different sense of humor than most grown-ups. Justin Caldwell, a freshman at Rocky Mountain, was asked about his opinion on the Minecraft movie.
“I would say 10 stars, definitely one of the best movies of this year,” said Justin.
Overall while some people believe that the Minecraft movie was not to their standards, it nevertheless was a fun, laughable twist on the classic video game many people know today.
