How Do Students Feel About Summer Jobs?

Most students in high school are now looking for a summer job or a full-time job. Students my ask themselves, what job should I go for? What jobs are out there? Three students from Rocky Mountain High School were asked a few questions on this topic. 

Bree Gifford, a ninth grader at Rocky, was interviewed to see how some freshmen see summer jobs. 

Q: What job would you recommend for students that are in high school? 

A: “I would recommend working in restaurants.” 

Q: If you could pick any job around here what would you pick?

A: “I would help coach the little kid sports teams.” 

Q: What are some of the ways that high schoolers want or need a job?

A: “Lots of high schoolers want or need it because of the money.” 

Q: What skill can you learn from having a job?

A: “Time management.” 

Q: Is it worth it to have a summer job? 

A: “I think it would be worth it to have a summer job.” 

She said you can learn “Time management” from work, that can also help with student’s time management with school. 

Michaelyn Patience is a tenth grader student at RockyLet’s see what she has to say about working while in school. 

Q: What job would you recommend for high schoolers?

A: “Something simple, retail or food is a good place to start.” 

Q: If you could pick any job around here what would you pick?

A: “I personally would love to work at Hobby Lobby.” 

Q: Why would some high schoolers want or need a job?

A: “Having a job brings a sense of independence because you make your own money, and you can spend it how you like.”

Q: What are some of the weirdest jobs out there that you have heard of?

A: “I have not heard of any super odd jobs around here.”

Q: What things are required to get a job?

A: “There is always a age requirement for certain jobs, usually above 14 years old.” 

Q: What are the best things about having a job?

A: “It feels productive and making money over the summer is great.”

Q: What skills can you learn from having a job?

A: “Time management, and there is a lot of skills that come specifically with a job like patience during customer service.”

Q: Is it worth it to get a summer job?

A: “Definitely, I would suggest it even if sometimes it feels tiring.” 

Patience has a job, and it sounds like she enjoys it. 

Rocco Porter, tenth grader at Rocky, was asked a few questions about working during the summer. 

Q: What job would you recommend for students that are in high school?

A: “I would recommend a job that does not take up a lot of time but still provides enough money to get you through the week.” 

Q: If you could pick any job around here what would you pick?

A: “I would probably work excavation or construction.” 

Q: What are some of the ways that high schoolers want or need a job?

A: “Mostly because high schoolers just want money so that they don’t have to depend on their parents to buy everything.” 

Q: What are some of the weirdest jobs out there that you have heard of?

A: “The craziest job I have heard about is an underwater welder. They make so much money. It’s dope!” 

Q: What things are required to get a job?

A: “At this age, basic life skills and knowledge about the job you are going to do.” 

Q: What are the best things about having a job?

A: “You can make money for the things that you want to buy.” 

Q: What skills can you learn from having a job?

A: “You can learn to work hard and to work with persistence.” 

Q: Is it worth it to get a summer job?

A: “Yes, because it will give you money to pay for your personal wants in life.” 

Porter said that it can earn you money. Now that sounds awesome. 

These students think it is good to have a summer or school job because the money can help get the things that students may want.
