Humans of Rocky: Somer

Harllie Stevenson, Editor in Chief

“I was born eight weeks early. They didn’t think my lungs had developed so they kept me in the hospital. When I was eight days old my heart stopped. They life flighted me to primary children’s. My heart stopped three times before we got there, they had to give me a shot of adrenaline [in the heart] each time. I was not stable when we got there so, I spent a week in a coma. Then they did closed heart surgery and I stayed in the hospital 3 more weeks. I don’t remember any of it, I wished I did but I don’t, my mom told me what happened. I wish I knew what they did and why I got the heart condition, because it’s not hereditary. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have it, but most of the time I am glad I have it because it is part of who I am. It’s not all of me, it’s just a part of me. I hope to go to UCLA for sports broadcasting or to be a stunt double. I love gymnastics, running and volleyball and taking my dogs for a walk and swimming, there’s a lot of things I like to do. I think those things define me”.
