At 6:00pm on Wednesday night, Rocky Mountain High School varsity soccer players got ready to win. When stepping onto their own field, the Grizzlies have more pride than ever. They bring intensity, tactics, and phenomenal cohesive play to every game. Rocky Mountain has dominated Ridgeview High School before, what is stopping them now?
Taif Alsaadi, junior, said, “Last year, they weren’t too bad, they had a couple decent hits in the middle, but other than that it should be easy for us.” He explains the predicted outcome of the opponent, Ridgeview High School. The Grizzlies bring intensity onto the field, motivated by their championship mentality.
At the blow of the whistle, both teams fought for every possession. Every play is strategic and tactical. No teammate of Rocky’s is playing without knowing exactly why they made that play. “We are technically really good, our skills are really smart you know, we know how to distribute the ball really well,” Alsaadi said. The possession went back and forth, but it was Rocky’s crisp passing and smart positioning that applies pressure on the opponents. David Muyolo passes the ball to Taulent Hyseni, and he scores there with precision. As Alsaadi says another efficient objective, “We have really good chemistry with each other. You know, we always hang out a lot out of school. I guess that matters a lot”. From golfing or getting food to running drills at practice, the soccer team manages to have very strong connections with each other. Being friends on and off the field helps majorly to secure their successful season.
Both teams brought their best, but in the end Rocky took the win 3-1 against Ridgeview. As they made it to state three times in a row, the Grizzlies are determined to keep their streak. If they continue to play with the same intensity and unity, there’s no telling how far they can go this season.
