Last year the girls varsity soccer team won the state championship and had an amazing season, but then they had 11 senior’s graduate. This year the team has 6 new freshmen on the team. Can they make it to state and win? Will they have as good of a season as last year?
The year already has been an amazing year for the varsity girls. After interviewing a few of the players, Alexandria Clark, one of the six freshman, Campbell Wilson, a senior, and Teagan Weigt a sophomore, I have found out that they really enjoy playing with each other and view one another as sisters. They have also said that they love their coaching staff.
Campbell Wilson has been on the varsity team sense her freshman year. She has accomplished so much during her years on the varsity team. In her sophomore year, she tore her acl taking her out for the season this really took a toll on Wilson as she really wanted to play and was devastated that she couldn’t. She spent the year healing her knee and becoming physically and mentally stronger. Wilson came back her junior year so much stronger. She led her team to state, and they won. During her interview Wilson stated, “I tore my acl sophomore year, but I came back junior year mentally stronger and won the state championship.”
Teagan Weigt is a sophomore and was also on varsity her freshman year. Weigt says “Being on varsity is super fun and it is a good environment.” She also talks about how everyone on the team is very close and how they all feel like sisters to her.
Alexandria Clark is one of the 6 freshman that made the varsity team. All of these freshman have a lot riding on them because the varsity team won state last year but then 11 seniors graduated. Clark starts in most of the games getting the most playing time out of the freshman. She plays most of the game with small breaks here and there.
I asked all three of the girls that I interveiwed if they thought that the varsity team this year could make it to state and maybe even win and all of them said yes.
