To most teens, AI Is just another way to cheat on math tests, get advice, or to have fun. But what if I told you that AI isn’t as great or useful as you think? AI has taken over some people’s lives and even jobs. From kids to adults, AI feeds us answers to any question we want if we ask. But who can blame them? Who wouldn’t want to have an assistant that can try its best to give you any answer possible? But AI tries its best. It can give you an answer, but it might not be right. In some cases, they give a best guess.
AI can answer simple questions, like what’s 1+1 or how to invest money. But AI doesn’t understand emotions fully. For example, fear. Aiden Haasakker, a freshman at Rocky, said that it would be better to see a therapist than ask AI about fear or phobia. Therapists have experienced fear before and are trained to control it and give advice about it. AI hasn’t experienced fear before and AI isn’t directly trained to control it.
AI can’t feel emotions, let alone stronger ones like depression. Believe it or not, but some teenagers have asked about suicide. AI responded with questions about it including the words ‘If,’ ‘However,’ and even ‘But.’
“AI should be removed from this world,” said Logan Carr, a sophomore at Rocky. Some people say that if AI isn’t banned, it needs to have boundaries to detect when concerning questions are asked to them.
AI can answer math questions without a sweat and can answer your question in astounding times. Any math questions, solved. Any definitions, defined. So, when AI was born, people used it a lot, asking questions about the world. But the older it got, the more people started to figure out what you could do with it. Eventually, students found out how to use it in school. They started to cheat on tests, skip homework, or any assignments they didn’t have done. They became largely reliant on AI to help them. “The last thing I want to do is be reliant on AI to do all my work because if it was taken away, that would be like taking away half of my intelligence.” Said Jameson Kowal, a freshman at Rocky.
In summary, AI is a helpful tool to most people. But using this easy tool would make people reliant on it, so that without it, people wouldn’t succeed. If it were to be used 100% of the time by people, no one would learn anything, and if suddenly we couldn’t use it, the future might not exist. Even if we don’t use it for answers, if we used it for therapy or advice, it wouldn’t work as well as normal humans. AI has never felt emotions and isn’t trained to give life advice. Sometimes AI isn’t the best thing to use when a question or homework assignment arises.
