Costco, a store opened on Sept 15, 1983, in Seattle, Washington, is a store that millions of people shop at today for multiple reasons, but they also suffer from the negatives of itself as well. The store was founded for the purpose of providing everyday consumers with access to the deeply discounted prices and bulk goods typically reserved for businesses, through a membership model.
Costco has its own branded foods and products, making them easier to manufacture and obtain, meaning they could be sold for better prices compared to other stores, the store also has a popular food court where they sell foods and beverages such as pizza, coffee, and hotdogs at low affordable prices compared to an average fast-food restaurant or other food courts in stores.
However, there are negatives to Costco as a whole. You must buy a membership that’s $65, the minimum cost of basic memberships, which you must renew per year. Along with that, you cannot enter the store without membership, but it can be entered with a person who has membership access. Costco suffers from success as most of the stores are crowded with many shoppers, making it hard for an average customer to maneuver around to find the things they are shopping for. Costco also has a very limited product selection, mainly so the store doesn’t spend most of its money on varieties of products, an example of this is them not having a certain model of a television.
Despite all of this, Costco has had a very positive reception from the public, even receiving multiple rewards. For example, in 2022, Costco received the Yahoo Finance Company of the year, in recognition of their financial performance and value. In conclusion, Costco is a good and reliable store that suffers from multiple negatives due to its reliability, and availability.
