During this week all students were “invited” to come to school and have 6 hours overall to finish their Math iReady. During these 6 hours most of everybody finished their iReady in the first day. Because of this… it led to lots of absences from students who already finished it in the first day. Some students had finished their iReady in the first hour. This led to lots of people doing absolutely nothing productive. But that’s where the benefits of the iReady testing come into place. Once students had finished their iReady’s they either played games on their phones, used their computers for non iReady stuff, and just did plane on nothing. For students, this is almost amazing! 6 somewhat hours to do what you want to do? And at school? Its a pretty good deal if you ask me.
Now the real question… is iReady testing really all that bad? Now for most students… it wasn’t, for some… it was,” I finished my iReady in like an hour, and for the next 5ish hours I just played on my phone and didn’t really do anything. But it was pretty nice to just relaxed for a little bit in a quiet room and do what you want”. (James Yorgason | Rocky Freshman). Some students say it’s too long,” I also finished my iReady in about an hour and the testing time was just way, way too long. My classroom had everyone done in around 2 hours. 6 hours is WAY too long.” (Toby Taylor | Rocky Freshman). From these 2 freshmen you can see the 2 different sides of this question. Was iReady testing really that bad?
Another problem that happened during iReady testing was miss communication. Some students that I interviewed said they did both iReady’s thinking that the 6 hours were for students to do both. But that’s not what’s supposed to happen. Next week on Wednesday and Thursdays

are iReady testings for the English iReady’s. This can lead to very negative thoughts on the iReady because since students didn’t know that… they have to go through another 6 hours of iReady testing when they have already done it. “I do NOT want to go through that all over again… it was soooo boring! It gets a little old when you just have to sit there for 3 hours straight and do absolutely nothing.” (Ashton Vineyard | Rocky Freshman).
So now the real question stands out. iReady testing is way too long, students already doing both not knowing that we had another testing the next week, nothing to do during that time. Overall, the iReady testing is a little exaggerated. I personally do not think the testing’s need to be this long. And its not just me… other students are also agreeing to this too. In conclusion, some students are having some fun with the testing hours and some aren’t. Even though the testing’s are long they are mandatory, and we do have to go through with it whether we like it or not. So maybe bring something from home? Find something to do? Be on your computer? Let’s all try and find something to do just get this over with.
