Golden and crispy, twirled and seasoned, french fries are more than a beloved side dish. They spark debates among students, friends, and wannabe food connoisseurs; Where do the best fries come from? These discussions often lead to Fanci Freeze in Meridian, known for serving the best fast-food fries in the valley. Their perfect blend of crispy texture, ideal saltiness, and delicious fry sauce for dipping makes them an irresistible choice for anyone who considers themselves a “fry enthusiast.”
When it comes to fast-food fries, several names come to mind, including Boise Fry Co. and the ever-popular McDonald’s. Both establishments have a dedicated following that claims their fries are the best and unbeatable. However, when closely examined, they do not compare to the consistent texture and flavor of Fanci Freeze fries. Boise Fry Co., for example, prides itself on offering a wide variety of unique potato options. They serve different types of fries, including russet, gold, purple, yam, and red potatoes, each providing its own flavor and paired with different seasoning salts. Although variety adds creativity to their menu and personalizes the dining experience, it can also complicate things. Senior Alexandra Wright has expressed her dislike for Boise Fry Co. fries due to the overwhelming number of options. She states, “There are too many options.” Sometimes, a classic approach is simply more effective.”
Fanci Freeze has mastered the classic fry experience. With each order of their classic fries, patrons can expect consistent, crispy fries that are fluffy on the inside. Their fries are seasoned just right, neither overly salted nor bland, keeping customers coming back for more. Senior Chloe Ayers believes Fanci Freeze has the best fries because “…they have really good seasoning and it’s the only place that has fry sauce, and it’s actually good.” For those who crave something additional to salt, they also offer seasoned waffle fries that enhance the experience without overpowering the palate.
Then there’s McDonald’s, known for its iconic fries enjoyed by generations. Their fries are often praised for their perfect golden crisp and consistent flavor. However, some drawbacks exist. A common criticism is that McDonald’s fries can be overly salted, distracting from the overall flavor experience. The extra salt can overwhelm the natural taste of the potato, making it hard to appreciate the fry fully. Additionally, some patrons note an element of artificiality in McDonald’s fries, claiming the flavor can feel manufactured and lacking the authentic taste found in a truly homemade fry. Senior Ava Carlson mentioned that she doesn’t like how McDonald’s fries can be “stale or soggy,” adding that they taste like they are microwaved. While McDonald’s fries are undeniably convenient and nostalgic, they lack the warmth and satisfaction found in those from Fanci Freeze.
The atmosphere at Fanci Freeze further enhances the fry experience. The nostalgic vibe of the establishment, combined with its welcoming staff, creates a sense of community that adds to the overall enjoyment of dining there. This reinforces the idea that fries are about more than just taste; they encompass the entire experience. Their neon ice cream signs hanging on the walls to their doodle animations on the menu keeps the environment a fun 50’s diner feel. Enjoying golden, crispy fries in a friendly environment results in memorable meals that resonate with diners. The loyal customers of Fanci Freeze don’t just come for the fries, they appreciate the entire menu, which also includes classic milkshakes, burgers, and soft serve that complement their fries beautifully. This bit of diverse offering ensures that whether you’re in the mood for something sweet or savory, Fanci Freeze has got you covered.
While Boise Fry Co. and McDonald’s may boast loyal fans, Fanci Freeze emerges as the top contender for the title of best fast-food fries in the valley. With their perfectly crispy texture, ideal seasoning, and the irresistible option of fry sauce, they deliver both in taste and in providing an authentic fry experience. For true fry enthusiasts, nothing compares to settling down with a basket of Fanci Freeze fries, knowing that each bite will bring satisfying crunch and golden perfection. In the world of French fries, Fanci Freeze undeniably stands apart as the ultimate destination for those seeking the best fry experience available.

This was a great article; I appreciated the many statements and evidence to support your claims, very good. Personally, I believe that no fry reigns supreme, but rather that each fry bring something different to the table. however, some fries are just better than others. I think the top 5 fries in Idaho are most likely: 5. Boise fry company is great; with its many options it allows for much creativity! Albeit, they have fallen of, ever since the removal of the rosemary pepper seasoning, as well as many others, but when reheated they make for a great 11:00 PM or AM snack. 4. DQ (formally known as Dairy queen) has excellent fries! When dipped with the ranch sauce they provide, the taste has a deliciously overwhelming umami flavor somehow! Combined with the fired chicken, and butter Texas toast, it just completes the meal. 3. when the fries come straight from the basket it is extraordinary, and if you mix it with the sweet coolness of the chocolate frosty (which is enjoyable, even to people who don’t like chocolate, like me) it enhances the experiences so much. 2. Fanci freeze provides a cozy and lovable atmosphere, as well as providing a sweet treat in any way shape or form for your fries. While the burgers can be a little lack luster, they’re still pretty good, definitely top 10 burgers (comment coming up on that soon) But the fries, so simplistic and tasty! When combined with your choice of shake the combination is admittedly delicious, and the nice crispy heat of the fires is predictable and admirable. 1. Guthrie’s chicken fries are expectational! When eaten with the crispy chicken along with one of the BEST fry sauces in Idaho! The fries taste so good, it makes your mouth water when almost just thinking about them, and when you wash it down with your favorite Pepsi product, the taste is just magnificent. But by far all these fries EACH bring something different to the table, and it always comes down to personal opinion and interpretation on what fry is YOUR favorite.

French Fries are some of the most popular foods. I haven’t met anyone who hasn’t enjoyed them. McDonald’s Fries are easily the most overrated thing ever. Thanks for sharing!
