Despite starting guard duo of Mach Savedra and Tanner Sweaney combining for 33 points, Rocky dropped its third straight game to Capital on Friday night, losing 68-63 and falling to 6-6 on the season.
Rocky immediately got into foul trouble, tallying 5 team fouls in the first 4:30 of play. However, Sweaney’s 8-point first quarter explosion powered Rocky to an 18-17 lead after the first period of play.
The second quarter was when the wheels started to fall off for Rocky. After starting the quarter with the lead, Rocky was promptly outscored 17-9, heading into the half down 27-34.
Although they made a valiant effort to rally back into the game, cutting the lead to 2 late in the third quarter and scoring a game-high 19 in the fourth, it proved too big a deficit. Rocky would never control the lead again.
Junior Mason Turpin, the normally stout center for Rocky, had a quiet offensive showing. He scored only a single point. The pinnacle of his struggle came in the fourth quarter. After notching an impressive block against a driving Capital player, Turpin was whistled for a technical foul for some over-the-top trash talk that included a bump.
Notable individual performances included a 16-point showing from Savedra, and 17 from Sweaney. Brock Stevens and Kaiden KimballTurner contributed 6 and 9 points respectively.
Rocky will now look to end its three-game skid on the 16th at Kuna, then return home on the 18th to play Meridian.

The way that you shared all the details, what happened and why in a way that all people could understand was helpful.

I really like how you included how the score reached that point instead of just saying what the score was. I also like how you included who scored the points and how many so that we can better understand the overall score.

Love the detail on the stats and how you really explained the game and how it went. As someone who isn’t very familiar with basketball and all of the rules that come with it, it was refreshing to see someone who explained it well. This is a great article!
