Skylar Monson, a sophomore at Rocky Mountain High School has recently moved here from Las Vegas. He has been playing on the Rocky Mountain football team for 1 year/season and is currently on the Junior Varsity team and Varsity team. While his football is his favorite sport, he still goes through struggles with it; as well as many accomplishments
Skylar’s football career started when he was about 6 years old, he played on a flag football team. That year he moved to Brazil for three years and he forgot a lot he had learned about America football because there were no American football teams in Brazil. He was a little bit behind, but that didn’t stop him. After he moved to Michigan, he caught back up and has been working hard ever since then. He was asked a few questions about football and what the team he likes, and these are some responses. He believes that what sets him apart from the team is that he really loves the game and works hard at it. His goals for right now and the future on the team and other teams are to get offers for college and other important things to further his football career.
To approach the games Skylar explains that he locks in and has a positive mindset for a positive outcome. He doesn’t let the fears of losing get to his head. His favorite play to run is go ball, his favorite football moment is when he is in the end zone, and his greatest achievement of this year is getting nine whole touchdowns. Also, Skylar explained that he switched teams meaning he is originally on Junior varsity but will often switch to play on varsity games.
He was asked what his strengths and weaknesses are, and his only response was he has no weaknesses, he really believes in his abilities. Skylar said, he handles his football injury’s by fighting through the pain and not letting it get the way of winning for himself, his coaches and his teammates. Skylar said it takes a lot of determination, hard work, effort, and resilience to play football and knowing that through the trials he can’t quit and let himself and others down. But this isn’t the only reason Skylar plays the game; he also loves to play.
He says it’s entertaining, good exercise, and a good thing to try to improve on and work hard at. His favorite thing about playing is when the Quarter back throws the ball. Skylar says, “What I love most about all of my teammates is that they are always so kind and fun and building me, and my confidence up daily.” He is excited to continue playing with all of them and keep on getting to know them through the years. The junior Varsity teams winning from this season are nine and loses are zero. The Varsity team was undefeated as well. Another thing to know about Skylar is his position in football is wide receiver.
Skylar is a great role model and mentor for younger football players, and they look up to him as not only a really good player but also a nice person and a good teacher. Although Skylar is an outstanding football player, he strives to be better every day. He is always exercising and doing things to make him more improved in his sport and be the best player he can possibly be. Through all the struggles, fumbles, and mistakes made during the game; sometimes Skylar keeps pushing to do what he loves and make everyone, including himself, proud. Skylar’s football idol is Odell Beckam Junior. This is because he is such a great player and never gives up even when the going gets tough. Odell Beckham Junior is a football player in the NFL for the Miami dolphins.
Skylar explains that life as a football player can sometimes be very challenging. You have to be a very hard worker, and it can sometimes be very time-consuming. Although football can be difficult the pros outweigh the cons. In conclusion, many people can agree that Skylar Monson is very talented when it comes to football and tries his hardest to achieve his goals.
