On Friday October 4th, the Rocky Mountain football team squared off with the Meridian football team, rocky mountain, who have been on a tear this season, started the game almost as if they hadn’t even warmed up. Meanwhile Meridian started the game with a chip on their shoulders ready to play. Rocky Mountains offense started slow, typically averaging 53.6 points per game had only 3 points at the end of the first quarter. I spoke with star wide receiver Kade benedick and asked him about the early game offensive struggles for rocky and he said this “we always start slow, but this game was slower than usual… to start the game the offense wasn’t communicating well which led to not moving the ball.” However, Rockys struggles were not meridians. Meridian started hot leading 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. Justin hall, a defensive back for Rocky Mountain, when asked about what they do to find their rhythm in hard and rough starts like this he said, “motivating each other is the most important factor in finding your rhythm.” He said keeping everyone’s head up and just keeping the sideline positive in a slow start is the best way to get going. However, Rockys struggles and meridians success was only temporary. As Rocky Mountain started the second half strong jumping to a 17-7 lead and ultimately finishing the game 31-7 Rocky Mountain on top. When Kade Benedick was asked about what lead to the success in the second half he stated, “We made a couple half time adjustments and started throwing the ball more to expose Meridians injured secondary.” Rocky finished the game with 301 total yards and 31 points to Meridians 171 total yards and 7 points. So, in a great battle between the schools Meridian, the underdog put up a great fight and effort but ultimately Rocky prevailed.
