The Captains of Rocky Varsity Football, Brody Swearhart , Jaryn Ikebe, and Carson Adams, shared their thoughts and opinions on what is going on with the team, their preparation for playoffs, and state.
Jaryn Ikebe, a senior was asked how he thought his team was doing so far. He expressed, “We haven’t been doing our best, but once we play a complete full game on offense, we will show everybody we are the best team in the state.” Others can most definitely agree with this statement, because he also felt that they should go to state, but they have not yet shown they deserved this opportunity with the way the offense has been playing. “As soon as we prove everybody wrong then we can show we deserve to go to state.” Jaryn added.
Brody Swearhart a senior as well shared “The team has been doing very good, we just need to work out a few hiccups then we can win against anyone.” When being questioned why the team should go to state Brody replies with confidence, “We work every day, and there is not a single team in the state that deserves it more than the group of players we have now. Through all the struggles, I wouldn’t understand why we don’t deserve it and why would not go to state.”
So far Rocky has won 5 games and lost 3. They have definitely been working hard, but both Brody and Jaryn have said Hayden Thompson a junior has been showing out and for sure working the hardest. According to Brody, Hayden has improved a lot since last year, not only physically but as a leader as well.
Lastly, another senior, Carson Adams who isn’t a main captain, but was nominated to walk out with the rest of the captains after showing his hard work ethic, mentioned how although they have been practicing a lot for playoffs that Eagle is their biggest competitor for state. He explained that he hasn’t noticed a specific person working the most, but the whole team has been putting in a lot of effort to get to their goal.
All captains have been very confident in their teammates this year which will motivate others to push through and get what they deserve.
